Volunteer: Food Sorting @ 3631 Lee Hill Dr, Fred, VA 22408

* IF YOU HAVE NOT ATTENDED VOLUNTEER ORIENTATION, YOU CAN NOT VOLUNTEER FOR THIS OPPORTUNITY.

Volunteers sort donated food and nonfood items.

SHELF STABLE PRODUCTS: These items are donated either through a retailer or a food drive.  Shelf stable products are categorized based on type of food after qualifying packages have been mended and the conditions for safety have been verified by the volunteer.

REFRIGERATED PRODUCTS: Items in the cooler consist of mostly produce, prepackaged prepared meals, and dairy products.  These foods require immediate attention for rapid distribution back into the community.  Many times, after food safety and condition of food have been verified by the volunteer, the items are bagged to ensure swift distribution to our neighbors.

FREEZER PRODUCTS: Frozen items consist of meat, which is separated by species, frozen meals, sides, and novelties.  Volunteers will perform the separating, mend packaging for qualifying products, and aid in keeping these items separated by their categories.

INCOMING PRODUCT: As drivers return from their daily routes, help is needed to perform a base separation upon arrival.  While working quickly to maintain food safety standards, items are separated by a base incoming category, weighed, recorded, and placed in their holding pattern location.

Volunteers may also be asked to box sorted food for orders, stock shelves, and perform general warehouse maintenance.

* Must wear close-toed shoes

* Shifts may be canceled due to the lack of incoming donations.

Volunteer: Holiday Card Creations - Club YEAH - Youth Only HOME PROJECT - 12 Years and Under

**This opportunity is only for YOUTH - 12 Years Old and Under. This does not count as community service hours.

Help bring cheer to a Neighbor's day - right from your home or classroom!! We are looking for Club YEAH (Youth Ending All Hunger) volunteers and their families to make holiday cards for our neighbors who utilize all of our feeding programs, including our senior-based programs. With many of our neighbors left without family, companionship, and joy, especially during the holidays, these holiday cards will be a wonderful gesture to brighten their day as they open their food packages, and poof... there's a handmade holiday greeting waiting for them. Our goal is to have the children make a collective total of 2,500 Holiday Cards , which we will hand out to neighbors at all of our distributions throughout the month of December. The cards can be designed and decorated however you choose - add glitter, stickers, puffy shapes, pictures, cut-outs, magazine clips, rolly-eyes, etc. There is no limit on how many cards each youth and their family unit can make.

** Volunteer(s) will provide all holiday card supplies. Each card must be dropped off to Dominique Thomas at Fredericksburg Regional Food Bank by December 15th.

All time spent making the holiday cards must be accounted for. Please make sure you register on our website as a volunteer FIRST (10 yrs and up). For 9 yrs and under, the parent must register and enter the amount of time their youth spent under their volunteer account.

To sign up, log into your volunteer account and go to our volunteer opportunity page. Look for Holiday Card Creations - Club YEAH - Youth Only HOME PROJECT - 12 Years and Under, and Respond/Submit Response and then choose  Add/Track Hours, "Holiday Card Creations," and record your total volunteer hours.  The time does not have to be exact, and it's easier when done after you work on the cards each time. If an adult helps the child make the cards, both the adult and the child must have a separate registration/log-in on our website - if the child is 10 yrs and up).

If you have any questions or need additional guidance, please contact Dominique Thomas at 540-371-7666 Ext. 131.

A smile and a hug expressed in a holiday card are excellent ways to ensure that our neighbors know that we care about them.

** This opportunity does not count towards court-ordered community service hours.
