Volunteer: Food Sorting @ 3631 Lee Hill Dr, Fred, VA 22408

* If you haven't attended VOLUNTEER ORIENTATION, you CAN NOT volunteer for this opportunity. Do NOT sign up for this opportunity if you haven't attended Volunteer Orientation.

Volunteers sort donated food and nonfood items.

SHELF STABLE PRODUCTS: These items are donated either through a retailer or a food drive.  Shelf-stable products are categorized based on the type of food after qualifying packages have been mended and the conditions for safety have been verified by the volunteer.

REFRIGERATED PRODUCTS: The cooler primarily contains items such as produce, prepackaged prepared meals, and dairy products.  These foods require immediate attention for rapid distribution back into the community.  Many times, after food safety and the condition of food have been verified by the volunteer, the items are bagged to ensure swift distribution to our neighbors.

FREEZER PRODUCTS: Frozen items consist of meat, which is separated by species, frozen meals, sides, and novelties.  Volunteers will perform the separating, mend packaging for qualifying products, and assist in keeping these items organized by category.

INCOMING PRODUCT: As drivers return from their daily routes, help is needed to perform a base separation upon arrival.  While working quickly to maintain food safety standards, items are separated by a base incoming category, weighed, recorded, and placed in their holding pattern location.

Volunteers may also be asked to box sorted food for orders, stock shelves, and perform general warehouse maintenance.

* Must wear close-toed shoes

* Shifts may be canceled due to the lack of incoming donations.

This event connects youth (and their families) with one another and local businesses in the area. Every vendor (profit and non-profit) provides an activity for the youth to participate in when they visit each vendor's tent. As an FRFB volunteer, you will be offering an activity in which we deem appropriate. The instructions and supplies will be provided to you.

* Volunteers will engage the youth and adults in decorating boxes (onsite and take home), as well as briefly mention volunteering @ FRFB for the youth and adults.
