Opportunities From: Fredericksburg Regional Food Bank

Volunteers will accompany the FRFB drivers to various Mobile Pantry stops. They will support mobile pantry operations where needed: pulling product, loading the necessary supplies and equipment onto FRFB trucks, and assisting with the distributions (i.e., set up/breakdown, counting product, and paperwork). This is a full-day opportunity. You will ride with the Mobile Pantry Driver to each site. Please bring money or pack a lunch (including drinks) for days with multiple stops, as these items are not provided.

For safety reasons, only volunteers who have reserved a space may volunteer; walk-ins will not be permitted.

Volunteers MUST be 18 years or older. Wear close-toed shoes (no slippers) Outdoor opportunity - wear comfortable clothing (we recommend layers, a hat, and sunscreen due to the ever-changing weather conditions) Do not bring valuables - FRFB is not responsible for lost, stolen, or damaged items Illnesses - Please refrain from attending the volunteer shift and unregister for the opportunity in your volunteer account Pantries will take place rain or shine Physical labor involved - must be able to lift 50 pounds Neighbor facing opportunity - must be courteous at all times Must be flexible Each work day will vary - new and different challenges may present themselves The posted shift may be more or less than 7 hours, depending on the needs for that day. Walk-Up Pantries focus on perishable items, such as fresh produce and dairy as well as shelf stable items. Neighbors select the items they want in a "farmer's market"-style distribution. We make every effort to allow the neighbors complete choice, taking exactly the items and quantities they choose.

This is a walk-up distribution. Our neighbors will be parking and selecting their own items as they progress on foot through the distribution line. Volunteers will be in direct contact with neighbors, guiding our neighbors through the line and restocking. Volunteers will be assigned to manage the line, assist with neighbor intake, ready food for distribution, and answer questions about our food selections as needed. Set-up and clean-up is also required. This volunteer experience requires great communication, a positive service attitude, and heavy lifting.

Volunteers younger than 15 years old must be accompanied by an adult. All minors must have a parental consent form on file at the time of the volunteer shift.  Wear close-toed shoes.   For safety reasons, only volunteers who have reserved a space may volunteer. Walk-ins will not be permitted.  Be aware there will not be a place to store personal belongings, please do not bring valuables  We ask that any volunteer who does not feel well refrain from attending their volunteer shift and unregister for the opportunity as soon as possible.  We will be outside - please wear comfortable clothing suitable to the weather (we recommend layers, a hat, and sunscreen due to the ever-changing weather conditions). Pantries will take place rain or shine. Should there be inclement weather, such as rain accompanied with lighting, or heavy snow, you will be notified of any cancellations.
