SNAP Volunteer @ 480 Central Rd, Fred, VA 22401

Description

The volunteer will assist the SNAP Coordinator after each client appointment by ushering the neighbor into the warehouse area to shop for items to take with them. Once finished, the volunteer will help the neighbor load their items into their car (where applicable), bring back the basket, and prepare it for the next person. In addition, the volunteer will help restock the shelves when needed.

There may be idle pockets of time, and during those gaps, the volunteer will help with other tasks as instructed by SNAP Coordinator.

* Must be on time

* Must wear close-toed and close-heeled shoes

* Warehouse isn't temp-controlled so please dress according to the outside temperature, as the same will convey inside.

* Possible Additional Responsibilities:

● Neighbor Shopping Assistance: After SNAP interviews, communicate with neighbors
to understand their immediate shopping needs. Subsequently, provide light shopping
assistance.
* Senior Check-ins and Reminders: Make regular phone calls to the senior community
members who are enrolled in the CSFP (Commodity Supplemental Food Program).
These calls will serve to remind them of upcoming pickups and to conduct general
wellness check-ins, ensuring their continued well-being.
* Front Desk Assistance: Greet and assist incoming volunteers and guests, providing
guidance and information as needed.
* Community Resource Navigation: Assist individuals in connecting with appropriate
community resources and services, acting as a friendly point of contact for basic needs
inquiries.
* Documentation: Maintain accurate and concise records of interactions and completed
tasks.
* Administrative Support: Assist with general office tasks such as shredding documents
and making copies of materials as needed.
* Preparing Mailers: Prepare and organize mailers for various outreach initiatives,
including assembling envelopes.


Qualifications:
● Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
● Compassionate and patient demeanor.
● Reliable and punctual.
● Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
● Basic understanding of community resources (training will be provided).
● Access to a phone and reliable transportation is beneficial but not always required
depending on the specific task.
